His smooth and easy flow of fingering creates a very sweet sound of music that penetrates the heart of all the audience.
Anup Datta is an Indian tabla player of the Farrukhabad Gharana, born in Kolkata on 4th March. His journey into rhythm began at the tender age of 8, under the guiding hands of Pt. Shib Sankar Karmakar.
His traditional training was further shaped under two great Masters — Ustad Karamatullah Khan and Pandit Shyamal Bose. This rare dual lineage sculpted an artist of extraordinary depth and versatility.
He made his mark at the prestigious All India Tansen Music Conference and the All Bengal Music Competition in Kolkata in 1975, and was awarded the coveted National Talent Search Scholarship from the Ministry of Education and Culture, Govt. of India, New Delhi in 1980.
A recipient of M.Mus. (Sangeet Bhaskar), Anup Datta is a regular performer on All India Radio and Television. He was attached to Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh (C.G.) for 36 years.
“Tabla is not just an instrument, it is a language of rhythm. If you respect it, it will speak to you.”
